The use of cloth diapers offers many advantages, both in infants than in children or adult incontinent.

 Ecology

The use of disposable diapers generates over a tonne of waste per child from birth until about 3 years. In addition, their manufacture and disposal is very polluting. A child in cloth diapers is about 3 times less waste, so imagine the benefit to the environment when used adult incontinence nappies ...
Health

Unlike disposable diapers, cloth diapers society Toudoo Natura:

  • Are free of chemicals
  • Allow the skin to breathe (facilitated evacuation of heat and ammonia from urine).
  • Make the child aware of the evacuation of its needs and advancing age and the acquisition of a clean six months on average.
  • Encourage the natural position deviated from the thighs, which is excellent for the development of the baby's hip joints.
  • Are extremely comfortable which is highly appreciated by incontinent adults wearing diapers day and night for many years!

Budget

For babies from birth to cleanliness, cloth diapers require an average budget of 1000 euros (variable depending on the number of layers and patterns) against 1500/2000 euros (or more!) For disposable (varies brands ). In addition they can be used for other children (siblings, etc. ...). Used sales

A totally adult incontinent day and night will invest around 900 euros ** to equip themselves with cloth diapers, an investment that will pay for itself in 6 months * to use at least 5 years!

** Based on our model Kiétude absorbent layer AI2 Kiétude clip and protective waterproof pants, and size L.

* Based on a cost of 150 euros per month in disposable diapers.
Use cloth diapers is part of a sustainable development!

A CHILD IN CLOTH DIAPERS is:

  • 72% of raw materials and less

  • 41% of energy consumed and less! (Despite washes)

  • 28% spent less water! (Despite washes)

  • 87% less waste

plus:

  • The abolition of the landfill of residual waste babies.

  • The abolition of animal testing.

  • The development of local economy by choosing cloth diapers in your area designed and manufactured in France.

  • A coherent approach to sustainable development by choosing cloth diapers made of textiles from organic (because it does not serve much use to wash diapers if they are made from textiles threatening environment such as cotton Classical and bamboo).

DISPOSABLE DIAPERS ***

Harm Health . Drier, less angry?

If it is accepted by some irritation that the problems are reduced by the ability of disposable diapers to keep dry the buttocks (Schuman, 1997), that is without taking into account the technical progress made also in layers washable, which can also keep it dry. Some pediatricians also recommend using cloth diapers when diaper rash relapsed (ROWLAND, 1995; Turkington, 1995). The presence of perfume and other chemicals in disposable diapers makes them aggressive for sensitive skin.

It is unanimously recognized (Schuman, 1997, ROWLAND, 1995; Turkington, 1995, Health Act, 1991) that the irritation caused by moisture on the skin of the child, but also by heat decomposition of the urine into ammonia and especially bacteria. Reduce the first factor is not sufficient to reduce irritation. The only solution is to frequently change the diaper, disposable diapers that are not conducive to do so, mainly because they seem dry, but also because of their cost and the desire to reduce waste.

Temperature under the layer, greenhouse effect?

One study (PARTSCH et al, 2001) shows that scrotal temperature rises sharply in babies and children wearing diapers. With the layer of cotton, the temperature of the awards is on average less than one degree compared to that seen with disposable diapers. It therefore appears that the layers of plastic-lined block the physiological mechanism of cooling of the testes. Doctors assume that scholarships, subject to such high temperatures, can not develop normally. Still, Dr. Carl-Joachim Partsch does not categorically condemn disposable diapers, but in case of high temperature, it promotes the development of cotton diapers for boys.

  • Asthma? Research (Anderson and Anderson, 1999) studied the respiration of rats subjected to air flow from new disposable diapers (3 brands tested) or cotton. It appears that the inhalation of air initially in contact with disposable diapers causes irritation and even asthma-like reactions, which is not the case of air that has circulated in the same way on cotton. A study conducted by "Anderson Laboratories" in 1999 and published in Archives of Environmental Health, showed that disposable diapers contain volatile organic compounds, including toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene and dipentène1.

  • TBT? Analysis by Greenpeace in May 2000 showed traces of TBT (tributyl tin) in some disposable diapers. Other organotin compounds such as dibutyl tin and monobutyl tin were also found. Even in very low concentrations, TBT can harm the immune system of humans and impair their hormonal system. It is absorbed through the skin. The British organization WEN (Women's Environmental Network) has also conducted tests and found TBT in the layers in July 2000. The response of large firms producing layers with respect to this information made public is that TBT levels are relatively low, and they meet the standards.

  • Polyacrylate? The super-absorbent gel (sodium polyacrylate), as the revolutionary substance to absorb the liquid and keep it dry was also used in tampons to women, it had to be withdrawn in 1985 because he was associatedwith toxic shock syndrome. Its high absorbency makes the powder of this hazardous substance in contact with eyes or inhalation. It is recommended not to tear the layers so as not to extract the powder.

  • Dioxin? Laundering of diapers with chlorine produces toxins such as dioxin that we find traces in the layers themselves. The term dioxin over 200 chlorinated molecules, of which 17 are considered toxic. The molecules of dioxin to be concentrated primarily in fat cells. (By way of absorption represents our skin). Dioxins are staying 30 years in the human body. WHO has recognized that it was carcinogenic in the long term. Observations on animals tend to show that dioxins are involved in a hormonal imbalance, decreased immune function, impaired fertility, damage to the neurological development in newborns exposed in vitro.

  • Effects of these chemicals? There are currently no studies proving that these substances in concentrations encountered, are harmful to the health of children. However, the nature of certain carcinogenic and other adverse environmental or health should lead to taking precautions in the use of these layers.
If there is no evidence of toxicity of these products in diapers, no study long enough no evidence they are safe.

Polyacrylate removed from tampons, phthalates removed rattles, the distilbene given to pregnant women and causing genital abnormalities in children are examples that show the interest of long-term studies on this type deproduit. The wise precaution should encourage them not to put children in touch during the first 2 years of life with these potentially dangerous to their health.

Parents are usually informed of the health problems associated with baby food, to medication, hygiene, tobacco. Ignorance is maintained on the dangers of the disposable diaper. All parents want what is best for their babies and are very ably influenced by advertisers.
